A staff of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) Morris Nonyia has been electrocuted in Onitsha, Anambra state, reports IgbereTV.
The incident occurred on Ojedi Street at the intersection of Mbah, inland city, on Monday, November 9, when the deceased was allegedly carrying out an illegal operation.
It was said that Mr. Nonyi, a native of Inyi in the Oji River Local Government Area in Enugu State and an Operations Technician in the EEDC office, GRA, Onitsha, recently gained a promotion after a week-long training in Enugu.
It was learned that the deceased was working on electrical installations in the area when the power supply was suddenly restored, causing him to be electrocuted.
He was rushed to the hospital, where a doctor certified his death. His remains were deposited in the morgue of Onitsha General Hospital.
Confirming the incident on Thursday, November 12, EEDC Communications Chief Emeka Ezeh revealed that the operation carried out by the deceased was illegal.
“I can confirm to you that the deceased was in an illegal operation when the unfortunate incident occurred,” Ezeh said.
“The job he was doing when he met his death was not what he was hired for. He is a member of the Key Customer Group (KCG) team, and his role is more that of customer relationship management, and in no way implies or justifies network meddling, let alone climbing the pole. It is very unfortunate and sad that he had to lose his life in such a careless way. “
