The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of two thieves following a shootout with command officers in the city of Inland Onitsha.
Anambra Police spokesman Haruna Mohammed, who revealed that the robbers were operating a motorcycle along St. Stephens down Ibekwe Street when they came across his waterloo, added that the robbers’ bodies have been dumped in a morgue after the doctor certified his death.
Items recovered from the suspects include a barrette pistol made from three rounds of 0.9mm vital ammunition and his operational motorcycle.
On 12/11/2020 around 4:45 pm, there was a distress call stating that two gangs suspected of armed robbery were operating on a motorcycle along St. Stephens along Ibekwe Street, inland city of Onitsha.
Following the distress call, police officers attached to the Onitsha Area Command together with the Adonidu vigilante group responded quickly and rushed to the scene.
As soon as the alleged armed robbers spotted the police, they engaged them in a fierce shootout.
In the process, the suspects were mortally wounded and overpowered.
The injured suspects were rushed to Onitsha General Hospital for treatment, but a doctor certified their deaths upon arrival and their bodies were deposited in the morgue.
The Command is guaranteeing ‘Ndi Anambra’ his safety before, during and after this period of embers and urged them not to give in to provide timely information for a prompt response.
