AFCON Qualifiers: Rohr, NFF Hold Emergency Meeting

The President of the Nigerian Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has called a meeting with the technical team led by Gernot Rohr of the Super Eagles for Saturday morning.

The emergency meeting comes on the heels of the disappointing 4-4 draw recorded by the Super Eagles against the less-imagined team from Sierra Leone.

Nigeria squandered a four-goal lead at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City to delay their qualification for the 2022 African Cup of Nations as Sierra Leone stormed back to tie the game 4-4.

The Eagles continue to lead Group L with seven points, and the Leone Stars remain third with two points, ahead of the other group clash between the Republic of Benin and Lesotho in Cotonou on Saturday. Whatever the outcome, the Eagles will retain their place at the top of the table, but a Lesotho win would push the Leone Stars to the bottom despite Friday’s feat in Benin City.

Nigeria and Sierra Leone will meet again at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown on Tuesday night.

Pinnick has already tasked players to put disappointment behind them and be ready to give it their all and redeem their image in Freetown on Tuesday.
