Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has made a passionate appeal to Nigerians and other fans around the world to forgive his lethargic performance in Friday’s AFCON playoffs against the Leone Stars.
Musa, who had promised fans that the Eagles would make them happy because they were denied the opportunity to see them live due to COVID-19 protocols, said Friday’s 4-4 tie was a real surprise.
Former Al Nassr was replaced by Kelechi Iheanacho in 71S t minute as the Eagles continued to lead 4-1, but having seen the poor finish, he has made another promise for a better show in Freetown.
“This has been a real surprise. I want, on behalf of the whole team, to apologize to the Nigerians in general for this poor result. We will go to Freetown and do whatever it takes. “Musa assured.
He added: “We made costly mistakes, we sincerely apologize and promise that we will fix things and get a victory in Sierra Leone.”

The Eagles continue to lead Group L with seven points, and the Leone Stars remain third with two points, ahead of the other group clash between the Republic of Benin and Lesotho in Cotonou on Saturday. Whatever the outcome, the Eagles will retain their place at the top of the table, but a Lesotho win would push the Leone Stars to the bottom despite Friday’s feat in Benin City.
Nigeria and Sierra Leone will meet again at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown on Tuesday night.
